Illustration I consider one of my strengths, primarily focusing on environment and dynamic viewpoints to create a sense of scale. I also enjoy merging the typical and unusual in my more imaginative pieces. Many past instructors have said that I show an illustrator's sensibilities in all of my work, even in projects that would typically have a more routine or demure nature.
My use of color is typically based on the use of complimentary color palettes and using that natural contrast to draw the eye to the point of focus. A teacher of mine once pointed out that I seem to favor overlapping gradients, which I had never realized until that moment but have since been more conscious of in elevating the level of my work.
In traditional mediums I tend to prefer vine charcoal and colored pencil, creating deep shadows and a sense of depth. I also work well with finding ways to give a sense of motion to a still piece through shape and body language.
I am also thoroughly experienced in ink and pen mediums.
I consider myself adept at the creation of patterns and emblems, maintaining consistently certain design elements and assets in order to create a sense of familiarity across designs without allowing any piece to feel derivative.
